YES - this is moss! We live in the Great Northwest - where moisture abounds. Trees are covered in moss ... tons and tons of moss. We found ourselves in the National Forest, looking for a pine tree (a rarity) amidst a forest of birch trees and other leafed trees COVERED with MOSS!

The snow had turned to rain and was long gone at home. In the mountains, the snow was sloppy, slushy and messy. But the kids dressed for the occasion anyhow and used their snowball maker to make some of the best snowballs.

So, we tromped through the slush, looking for just one pine tree. At last! We found ONE. Yes, ONE, surrounded by more and more birch trees.

Steve used to make log furniture using Aspen trees. I think that up here, he's going to have to pull a permit to get Birch trees. They'll make nice log furniture, don't you think?

So, home we went with our tree .. which is actually one of the better Charlie Brown trees we've had in a long time.
