Biblical Parenting

Last night and this morning, we have the honor of hearing Paul Tripp teach on Parenting at Mars Hill Church in Ballard. www.paultrippministries.org
I've only read one book by him, Instruments in the Redeemers Hands, and just ordered How People Change. He's just one of those writers who makes you fall at the feet of Jesus in worship. Attending his conference is such a gift. Here's a few quotes from last night.

*You can't give away what you don't have. You need to live in awe of God! Awe of God is the greatest gift you can give your kids.

*To the child the most seductive idol is himself. Every child wants to be God. Your child needs to be rescued from himself. Only worship of God can do that.

*Parents, you have no capacity, zip, nada, to change your kids.

More to come later ...

Sounds like a good teaching - along with a dose of reality. Even so - kids are the best.

I remember being told in a college psychology class that it was critical to develop a child's personality by age 5....many years later, I was reminded by a Christian speaker, that God can change our hearts at any age. That really put things in a better perspective for me.
